契約しているレンタルサーバーにplenvをインストールしようとしたところ、gitが入っていないことに気づいたので、インストールしてみましたので、メモしておきます。
レオサーバーでは、yumは権限がないため利用できません。
そのため、ソースからインストールとなります。
インストール先は $HOME/local/bin とします。
①ダウンロード
ソースのダウンロード先は、https://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/
今回のインストール時には 2.6.4 でした
ダウンロードした後解凍します。

②インストール
インストール先が$HOME/local/binなので、prefixに設定します。

$ make prefix=$HOME/local |
そうすると、

/bin/sh: msgfmt: command not found |
とエラーになってしまうので、gettextをインストールする必要があります。
gettextがインストールできた(されていた）ら次をコマンドを

$ make install |
これで完了です。
念のためgitを実行して以下のようになれば問題ないと思います。

追記
もし、インストール先のパスが通ってない場合は、レオサーバーでは、.bashrcにパスを追加します。
今回の場合は以下の通り
